Based out of Tampa, The Beauvilles celebrated the release of their new CD, "Whispering Sin," on Thursday, September 11th at The Crowbar. We caught up with Shawn Kyle Beauville after to get some answers to some questions we were dying to know about.
 

How did you get the name, The Beauvilles? And who are the members of your band? 

The Beauvilles were originally a southern family of overt hedonists in the 1800’s that fell into scandal due to the spiritualism religious movements of the time. They were discovered to be practitioners of the occult, and had to flee their homes and become something of a group of gypsies. Much of my family in Georgia is buried on that old plantation property.  But I chose the name because of a foolish card bet that I lost while drunk in a French house of poor morals that happened to have the same name.

Three members of the band drink Gin, Scotch and Beer. One member of the band owns a black cat. Two members of the band have facial scars above their right eyes, one of which was inflicted at our show last Saturday with the Drive By Truckers, on stage with a cymbal from the drum kit. Four members of the band have all lost blood because of playing in this band, and said blood can usually be seen on their instruments, because it is a proper pain to clean dried blood off of anything. Two members of the band consider the band more of an “artistic statement” rather than a musical endeavor. 

The youngest member gets picked on the most. He also eats the least, which means that we can take him in a bar fight if need be.
 

We noticed you've been wont to take on Beauville as your surname. What's up with that?

See previous answer regarding the gambling. I lost my name in a card game. Horrible stakes. Never play cards against someone that has one eye, elephant skin boots and only drinks Port wine. I should have bloody known better, but after a dozen years I rather like the name Shawn Kyle Beauville, so it will do. I won’t begin to get into what else I’ve lost.

Ok, so you have this new CD out, Whispering Sin. Tell us about the creation, inspiration, and perspiration it took to put it all together.

This record has songs on it that have confessions to where extinct animals still live, exhausted love still lingers and extinguished lamps still burn low. In short, it contains non-fiction stories from travels of over a dozen American states, their countless cities, and the countries of France and Japan. I am inspired by true things, even things that I believe to be true but do not exist.

Are there any songs on the disc you would like another artist to cover? And who would you want to play that song?

 I encourage anyone who enjoys the songs to figure them out and perform them, if you write me and I am off tour, I may even send you the chords. Music and songwriting is the oldest form of carried history, and predates writing on paper. If someone wants to retell one of my stories, they have my blessings. Also, I would like Nat King Cole to cover Last Hymn of the Gloriously Beat. Unfortunately he may be terminally preoccupied at the moment.

You wrote all the lyrics, are there any songs you wish you wrote?

I wish I had written whatever song Adam and Eve sang in the first place to kick it all off.

I wrote, arranged and composed all the songs on Whispering Sin, and collaborated on 3 of them with other very talented musicians. I also learned how to play the violin, cello and chump organ for this record.

Is there anything we don't know about Shawn Kyle that we probably should?

It is probably unwise to buy me drinks, but please friends, don’t let that stop you.
