Piers Morgan Tonight – Arthur Baker Freebass Remix Chosen for Trailer for CNN’s Larry King Tonight Replacement
posted Jan 3rd 2011, 18:36
Former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan has long since left the print industry for a television career and his increasing profile, especially in the US with his role of judge on America’s Got Talent, has seen him land one of the most prestigious job in journalism as the replacement for America’s foremost interviewer Larry King as he retires from his “Larry King Live” 9pm CNN show.
“Piers Morgan Tonight” launches Monday January 17th in the Larry King slot. With Piers as the King-In-Waiting of American interviewers, he is joined on his first show by the Queen of Television, Oprah Winfrey, who has recently launched her own TV channel, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network).
Freebass’ “You Don’t Know This About Me - The Arthur Baker Remix" has been chosen to soundtrack the advance thirty second television promo for this much anticipated launch, with the theme “You Don’t Know This About... Piers." The track was recorded early in the Freebass sessions before the band found a lead singer. The Charlatans UK's Tim Burgess wrote the vocal for his Mancunian rock star pals while driving through the Hollywood Hills. It eventually became the lead track on Freebass’ debut EP, Two Worlds Collide.
Jesus Christ! John Ralston's Christmas Single
posted Dec 8th 2010, 16:44

Nearly three full years since last we heard from him with 2008's White Spiders, he appears like a mirage with two alternate universe classics. "Jesus Christ" may be the most daring A-side we have ever heard with it's drones, screeches, and clanging recalling the glory of the Velvet Underground. The B-side is an alarmingly gorgeous New Orleans heart breaker entitled "A Marigny Christmas."
Both songs feature the downright spectacular drumming of New York's Deric Dickens. We liked these songs so much we decided to press them on white and red vinyl just in time for the holidays.
Purchase the vinyl and receive the digital versions of both songs as well as a demo version of "A Marigny Christmas." Pressing limited to 300 total copies; 150 red & 150 white. ORDER YOURS HERE:
SPIN - Peter Hook Revives Joy Division Live - And WOW!
posted Dec 2nd 2010, 12:45
Thirty years after Ian Curtis' suicide and Joy Division's subsequent break-up, the band's legacy still means both magic and misery for its three living members.
Most of the magic comes from how their art has been remembered: the Manchester, England-bred group's ominous, stirring songs set the blueprint for morose post-punk, and their thin discography continues to be prized by critics. The fact that Curtis, a 23-year-old enigma of a vocalist, hanged himself as his band was gaining success helped fortify a mythological aura, too. Meanwhile, the misery stems from Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris losing a cohort so early, and Curtis' death then throwing a pall over their remaining careers. New Order, the trio's post-Curtis band, could never possibly reach the same influential heights as their previous project, and if any of them try to revive said project, they enter murky waters with Joy Division loyalists.
SPIN Interview - Peter Hook Talks Controversial Joy Division Tour
posted Nov 18th 2010, 18:36
By William Goodman SPIN - November 18, 2010Next month bassist Peter Hook will put his career and the legacy of his first band, the iconic post-punk quartet Joy Division, on the line.
The 54-year-old Manchester native will head to the U.S. for a nine-date tour performing 1979's Unknown Pleasures, Joy Division's landmark debut, in its entirety. But the tour has enraged many of the band's fans, not just because he'll stage the gigs without the participation of any other original band members, but also because he'll be handling the vocal duties of the band's late singer, Ian Curtis, killed himself in 1980 just as Joy Division was poised to embark on its first North American tour.
"The criticism has been aimed at me, saying I'm cashing in on Joy Division and Ian Curtis," Hook tells SPIN. "But it took 30 years to cash in. So does that count? Usually you cash in after waiting 30 minutes."
