Brooklyn Rider To Make A 'Racket' At U.S. Open

NY1 / New York City
To get ready for the U.S. Open, 24 Hour Service Station distributed string quartet Brooklyn Rider is tightening its strings. The quartet will be performing at the U.S. Open in Queens in September. Violinist Johnny Gandelsman says they’re already working on their set.
"We play music from all over the world and the U.S. Open is such a representation of that. We might think of a set that kind of represents us and the U.S. Open together. We might play some Swiss music for Roger [Federer]," says Gandelsman.
While Roger Federer may need some help with his game, these musicians have played together for years and play like champions. They’ve just released their new album called "Dominant Curve." It takes on Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor plus several new compositions.
Peter Hook ( Joy Division / New Order ) Launches New Label, Hacienda Records UK - Signs Distro Deal With 24 Hour Service Station
posted May 14th, 14:24
24 Hour Service Station is thrilled to announce a worldwide distribution deal with Peter Hook’s new record label, Haçienda Records UK. Hook, the legendary bassist & founding member of New Order & Joy Division, is operating the label out of Strawberry Studios in Manchester, England. Modeled on the same principals & integrity as Hook’s former label, the Tony Wilson headed Factory Records, Haçienda Records UK allows for future Hook projects as well as music from new artists to be developed, released & distributed easily.
The First Fruit of this partnership is the long awaited & often rumored FreeBass - Two Worlds Collide EP. Featuring three of Manchester's bass guitar legends; Peter Hook (Joy Division / New Order), Andy Rourke (The Smiths) & Gary "Mani" Mounfield (The Stone Roses), FreeBass had a long gestation process. The right lead singer was hard to pick, so they asked their famous friends to contribute with Tim Burgess (Charlatans UK), Pete Wylie (The Mighty Wah!) & Howard Marks (Mr Nice) responding to the call.

Their album was Number 1 on the Chamber Music chart, and Number 3 on the overall Classical chart. The quartet is currently on tour in Southeast Asia with Yo-Yo Ma, and recently performed a feature showcase for NPR at SXSW in Austin, TX. Congratulations to their label In A Circle Records and members Johnny Gandelsman, Colin Jacobsen, Eric Jacobsen & Nicholas Cords.
"This smart string quartet is, at heart, a rock band string quartet... The players present four strong, feisty voices but of like mind. They play off one another. Every phrase, every rhythmic impulse is meant to get your attention." - LA Times
