A companion piece to the 32 track double CD Ceremony - A New Order Tribute, here are 12 takes on the New Order classic "Ceremony" recorded by a diverse range of artists from electronica to indie rock.
With versions ranging from the pulsing Jesus & Mary Chain inspired take from Christian Webb & Adam Knowles, to the beautiful rocking by 10 & 13 year old singing & guitar playing sisters Yes But No, to The Sheaks' dusky western shoegaze, this compilation covers all genres. Glomag's 8 bit chiptune rendering, Last Year's Model's proto-punk & Kingsbury's quiet late-night grooving give the song a proper rite.
Ceremony - A New Order Tribute offers takes on almost 30 different New Order classics. Global participants from Electronica to Indie Rock include New Order & Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, Detachments, Rabbit in the Moon, John Ralston, Yes But No, Sunbears, The Cloud Room, The Dark Romantics, GD Luxxe, XOXO & Kites with Lights. Partial proceeds from album sales benefit the Salford Foundation Trust's Tony Wilson Awards, established in memory of the founder of Factory Records, who died of cancer in 2007. The trust benefits children & young artists in Manchester, UK. Peter Hook, bassist for New Order & Joy Division, is a supporter of the project and has recorded a sonically enhanced spoken word dedication to Tony Wilson to introduce the double CD.
* The child band of Yes But No pull out an amazing take of "Ceremony" that is not only good but mind boggling since the two girls singing and playing guitar are 10 and 13 years old. It's a beautiful and rocking version, and shows me that these two girls Brianna and Skylar Ward are infinitely cooler than me. — Nick Freed, Consequence of Sound
* Yes But No, fronted by two sisters age 10 and 13, do a well credible cover of 'Ceremony', which mixes their sniding at the back of the school choir voices with some serious geetar sniping at the front. If that's them playing, be scared... be very scared! — Stephen Kingston, Salford Star
* We're especially digging Christian Webb & Adam Knowles' pulsing, true-to-the-original cover of 'Ceremony'. — Jay Cridlin, TBT / St. Petersburg Times
* You have some radical reinterpretations, plenty of (true?) faithful covers, and plenty of reverential and respectful tributes. A superb set for any New Order fan, and plenty of solid material for novices just as well. — Todd Zachritz, Goatsden
